A legendary bloodline whose history is highly touted, spoken of,
and revered in the Vampire Hunting community at large, and tolerated,
hated and spat upon by the upper levels of The Hunting Party itself.
Outside of those spheres however, the only thing The Belmont bloodline
is known for, are the video game characters that were very, very, very
loosely based on their lives.
What is known is that The Dracula had started her reign of terror,
building her power base in what was a new territory for her, Wallachia,
now known as Romania. The first Belmont to enter into conflict,
Dragomir, was a constable in a village.
For those who've played the series of "Castlevania" games from Japanese
video maker Konami, they wrongly assume The Belmonts rose up to attack
The Dracula, but it was actually something else that caused them to
start their eternal quest to kill The Dracula: The First Hunter.
History has it that The First Hunter had come into Dragomir Belmont's
village and was destroying it after discovering the vampire corruption
that Dragomir had also been trying to rid his village of. The First
Hunter's destruction was indiscriminate, and innocent people were being
killed by not only The First Hunter but the collateral damage he caused
with his mystical weapon as he battled the vampires.
Dragomir had lost hope for the people he had tried to protect until an
Angel appeared to him during the days long battle, and offered him a
blessing and a weapon with which to combat The First Hunter saying that
if he killed him, The Dracula would also die. He accepted, but still
found he was no match for the monster who had both power and experience,
and couldn't defeat or drive him out.
The First Hunter moved on after finally getting his one lone kill, and
it was in the rubble of his village that Dragomir found himself not
blaming The First Hunter, but the vampires who had brought him here.
This would lead Dragomir to use his new power and weapon, a Blessed
Mace/Whip, against vampires whom he discovered was a indefatigable bane
against their kind.
This would lead Dragomir and his descendants into a hunt for The Dracula
that has lasted to the current day, but with the same annoying result
with every battle between a Belmont and The Dracula.
While they defeated her again and again, each successive Belmont would
discover a horrifying truth: They may defeat her, but every century
after her defeat, she would rise again. For every Belmont victory,
they've never been able to actually kill her. This was dubbed "The
Belmont Curse" by Vampire Historians in the 18th century.
In 1985, Japanese video game maker Konami optioned the rights from a
Belmont descendant to make a video game based on their family history.
Unfortunately for the Belmonts, their history was dubbed either too
ridiculous or too boring, and the game's designers went on to create the
flourishes and innacuracies that create the modern game franchise
history line.
The members of The Belmont Clan that still work on The Hunt started by
Dragomir very much resent the game histories, and the way they are
viewed because of it.
